Nature

I feel as if my project is very relatable and can be understood by many. Many people's emotions are affected by nature and I wanted to portray that in a musical and visual way. Individuals experience seasonal depression and seasonal happiness and it is very interesting to me that nature can play such a role on one individual. Therefore, I wanted to create a piece where it could be related to a more lighthearted and modern feel. I have been very fortunate to travel and experience new cuisines and cultures in my lifetime. As it is something I am very grateful and proud to accomplish thanks to my parents, I wanted to incorporate it into my final project while also elaborating on the effects it can have on individuals. While I have experienced these different cultures and cuisines through travel, I have always had an eye for photography of my surroundings, including nature. That being said, I wanted to use videos of flowers, the sky, and the everyday activities that people enjoy for my final project. In order to showcase the deeper level of what nature can do for one's mental state, I wanted to use a contrast of the three videos I previously stated.  Nature can make someone happy or even depressed, so if I can possibly spread awareness of such topics through the use of visual and auditory effects, why not?!

Happy

In my first video, I used white cherry blossom trees in bloom. The motions evokes are happiness and rebirth of something new, overcoming all obstacles that have and are going to be faced. In order to achieve this, I made sure it was a sunny and bright day to make sure that feeling of happiness is portrayed. My general process was fairly simple but complicated due to the audio I chose to sync with the video. I enjoyed everything about this process from creating the videos to having friends help me create this experience. In the second video, I wanted to use a blue and sunny day as my visual representation. I believe it evokes true happiness and tranquility. In order to achieve this emotion I made sure to sway back and forth to represent the motion of the clouds in the sky. In the third video, I decided to use people played and enjoying themselves in the grass for a direct contrast. In order to achieve this emotion I made sure that there was a good amount of people playing so that it could seem fun and uplifting. The process was relatively fair because there are a great amount of people who enjoy their time outside while it being sunny outside. The process was also easy but I had to make sure that the weather was good which is something I had to prepare for a week in advance. I enjoyed this process so much because it is so cool seeing your visions come to life!

Sad

The second section shows more melancholy scenes.  In the first video, I used the dead and droopy flowers. Based on this video, there are certain emotions that are evoked. For example, the emotion of feeling sad and down, having difficulty getting up and "dusting yourself off". In order to achieve this emotion, I was on the search for flowers that looked dead and droopy but still had colors to represent what they could become mentally, emotionally, and other feelings and rain. I learned how much music and visuals play an affect on one's emotions. I enjoyed creating this piece as it is something that I am truly proud of no matter how professional it may or may not look. In the second video, I used smoke/steam in the rain. Similar to the explanation stated previously, the emotion evoked is a sad and eerie vibe. The viewing of smoke and the rain may symbolize the idea of a clouded mindset, filled with thoughts that may not be the most positive. The general process was slightly difficult because I was trying to find areas on campus where there was smoke which is not the common. In the third video, it was of people walking in the rain. The feeling evoked could be sad and just dragging along with the day. The purpose was to show that we are all one in the same and it is okay to not feel your complete best. My general process was slightly difficult. For example, I had to make sure it was raining and get a good amount of traffic of people while walking in the rain with their umbrellas. It was fun to record but at the same time I did respect their privacy and did not go too close so that their faces were not shown. My overall process was fun and I enjoyed making my own visuals with audio. I enjoyed the process because I thought my idea was very creative!

Network

The mood that I analyzed from this scene was disappointment. Disappointment in the sense that it shows how the outlook and representation of media has not necessarily gotten better, in fact maybe worse. 45 years later and the overall summary/theme is still relevant today. This scene provides so much emotion to the audience that it makes them want to cry real tears because "they cannot take it anymore". There are times where I believe that the media takes certain events and situations way too out of hand and context. The media (and most medias) need to be held accountable for spreading panic, fear, anger and the dehumanization of human value in exchange for ratings.  Therefore, I am going to try and create a soundtrack that is calm yet sad to portray the mood of the scene and how it still affects society to this day. However, towards the end I will incorporate a suspenseful beat to show how it still affects society today.
